Area
The Sunnmøre alps is a fantastic and unique landscape, where mountain meets fjord with spectacular results. Standaleidet has been described as the crown jewel of the Sunnmøre alps. Amazing hiking / skiing routes right outside the door, both in summer and winter. Take a look at the Sunnmøre Alps in the gallery.
Fishing locations are plentiful - either in the fresh mountain waters, or down in the fjord. Bondalselva and Ørstaelva are rated amongst some of the best salmon rivers in the north west. It is only a 5 minutes drive down to the fjord where motorboats of various sizes are available to rent. Ørsta town centre is only 20 mins drive through the valley.
With Standaleidet as your base, you can participate in a range of different outdoor activities, in both summer and winter, in the mountains and on the fjord. Take a look at the available activities.
Ålesund Skiing Club have their headquarters right next to cabin complex. In 2008, they celebrated the 100th Anniversary of "Standalrennet", the "Standal Run", which is the final leg of the Norwegian Telemark Ski Cup.
Day Trips
The Union Hotel at Øye. During the 1900's, the hotel was frequented by the highest dignataries of Europe, including the Norwegian, English and German royal families. The favourite getaway for Keiser Wilhelm I, who helped to rebuild the town of Ålesund, destroyed by fire in 1904.
Ålesund - The Jugand Town and the bird island "Runde" are within an hours drive. Briksdalsbreen, Geiranger, Trollstigen, Atlanterhavsveien and Stadt (Vestkapp) are also within range for a day trip.
From Standaleidet, it's a short distance to all of Sunnmøre. Ålesund, Ulsteinvik, Hareid and Fosnavåg are all within an hours drive. Volda is only 30 minutes drive.
Sunnmøres warmest bathing spot?
Jumping into the fjord or splashing around in the mountain streams maybe a refreshing experience, but mostly a cold one. At Standaleidet, we can offer a milder experience in "Standalvannet", which boasts the highest natural bathing temperature in the county. During the summer of 2006, temperatures in excess of 21.5 degrees Celcius were recorded.
We have built a jetty which juts out from a south-facing beach, well shielded by terrain and vegetation.
